Lotus Life Yoga

I created this logo and additional designs for my wife's yoga studio. The logo has a repeating pattern of a mandala that is masked inside of a circle except for where the elephant is reaching with his trunk. I created a layer mask of blues and purples and applied it to the elephant as a way to blend him with the blue tones of the mandalas. I then applied the same effect to the lotus life word lettering and placed it in the negative space above the elephant. I've broken this image down to use individual elements as branding assets as well. I plan to show these assets in my portfolio as a way to document how they are all being used.

Blue Collar Cannabis

Here's a logo I did for a Cannabis start-up company. They wanted a logo that had a vintage feel to it. I created a mood board of images to get clarification on the exact style, then created a number of designs to show. I tried using a bunch of colorways that had weathered tones then applied a distressed filter over the top to emphasize a vintage look. This was the winning design they went with, but sadly, the business didn't get off the ground. They ended up starting another company called High Voltage Farms which I also took part in designing the logo for that is currently in full swing.

Soldier15 Clothing Co.

This set of designs is a clothing brand I started some years back called soldier15. The target market for this brand was for MMA fans. Soldier stands for the effort and discipline fighters need to succeed in the ring and the 15 represents the three five-minute rounds a typical fight lasts. This image has the logo positioned behind fencing and the background grey tones fade out and get darker towards the edges of the frame in a vignette fashion. The logo was created in Adobe Illustrator then placed in Photoshop to add the rest of the elements.

Vintage High School Printshop

I teach a 2 year CTE pathway class for graphic design and printing. We produce goods and services for other clubs on campus and out in the community. We needed a logo to help brand the class as a separate entity from the school. I wanted to use CMYK for the color palette to show a youthful vibrance and printing techniques

Mother Earth Mafia

This logo is for a comic series called Mother Earth Mafia. The storyline is about animals with human characteristics that take over the planet. My client had a number of sketches as inspiration for me to use. I wanted to make sure I used colors found in nature and paired it up with a futuristic sans serif font. I created a shield-like shape and turned it into a cutaway of the earth's crust with a treelined horizon. There were a bunch of iterations with greater detail in the dirt but ended up using this one for its simplicity.

Marcos Galaviz

Over the years there have been friends who have lost their lives. My community of brothers have created memorial events as a way to honor and cherish these friendships.     In 2021 we lost a dear friend of the group and I was tasked with creating a sticker, patch, and image to be used in a memorial.  I created a sunset mountain scene as a way to represent his passing. The mountains symbolize the location where we camp and hawk for life after death. The MG is my friends' initials and the cacti represent his Hispanic heritage. I included the reciprocal tree symbolizing our friend group and the roots that we have grown as an extended family. There were many iterations of this design which took a few months of planning, development, and collaboration to create this set of images worthy enough for our friend and brother Marcos Galaviz.

Ole Buzzard Reunion

There is a tradition in our family where we celebrate the milestone of turning 70. This year it was my uncle Charlie’s turn.  As a family, we live in separate parts of the country, this celebration in Northern Idaho is a perfect excuse to spend quality time together. As a design, it was important to honor the families involved, the location of the gathering, and the date it occurred. I added the last names of the families with Johnson in the center because it was his birthday celebration. I included mountains as the main subject because the house where we go is in the mountains and the rays of light as a positive reflection of why we are getting together. It’s called the Old Buzzard Reunion as a light-hearted ribbing to the person turning 70 and there is an image of a buzzard flying as a way to honor that person

Vintage High School Academic Banner

I was asked to create an academic flag for this high school to be used during graduations and other academic celebrations. Located in the Napa Valley, it was important to use imagery tying the design to the school’s location. I added grape leaves and rolling agriculture hills to help describe this. I also used a hot air balloon since they can be seen flying across the valley all year long. The school motto is “We Rise By Lifting Others” and I wanted it to be used as a heading to define the site’s culture. I intertwined the letters VHS and created a shield shape from them as a way to show protection over what the school holds most important which is education and community. The teardrop shapes arching around the icons and above the monogram  also symbolize this message

Upper Crust Bakery

Upper Crust is a French Bakery that holds true to its roots. Using the unique pattern from the structural elements of the tower I used the biggest arch of the tower as a design element. The UCB monogram fills the open space under the arch of the Eiffel Tower. The script font is a juxtaposition against the angled straight lines of the beams which allows the monogram to stand apart. The logo is visible at different scales using black and white and in color. The color pallet is clean, simple, without drastic contrast. This helps make the logo easy on the eyes and inviting. The color choices are unique to stand apart from other bakeries as well as keeping it a classic and contemporary feel.

FNG camp T's

We have an annual invite-only camping trip in which 60 friends and family members get together to build bonds and act like boys. Returning members are able to bring 1st-time attendees which are lovingly called F*cking New Guys (FNG’s). These new members are outfitted with special safety attire as recognition of their 1st trip and are put to work as an imitation into the group. These new members are taken under the wings of older members and are welcomed as part of the group. This logo speaks to what the camp is all about and is meant to honor one’s first experience. RMMC and reciprocal tree stand for one of its founding members who passed. Year One symbolizes first experiences and the opening at the top of the shield is a way to describe the welcoming of new people to the group.

Amethyst Bay Resort

This image is an animated gif for Amethyst Bay Resort. I created this design in my GRA 220 class. I wanted to add this file to show some diversity in creating basic animations. My tagline for this project was "Distraction Awaits" as a way to promote this destination vacation as a getaway from reality. As the animation starts, the Amethyst Bay logo streams across the bottom of the page from right to left and holds on the left side of the banner. As it is moving across the page the words Distraction Awaits reveals on the water droplet background like its getting written on a steamy window. After this first part of the animation plays, it reverses its motion like it is being rewound and vanishes. Lastly, it reveals a Call to Action with website and phone number.

RMMC Annual Camping Trip

Begining in 2001, myself and 19 other guys unknowingly started an annual camping trip that has grown into an event that over 65 men from across the county look forward to. As a way to memorialize each year, I have created designs that have been made into shirts, patches, hats, vests, stickers, belt buckles, and challenge coins. Here are just a few of the designs I've made over the years.
